Description

Delicately perfumed with a bouquet of crystalline red fruits, pomegranate and rose petals, this is a wine that reveals itself slowly, and in waves. Fine boned, silky and structures, its a joy to drink now but will only continue to build and improve.

  • Vintage Notes

The 2022 growing season was the third cool season in a row. Unlike the even and good sized crop of 2021, the season produced some low yields, though once again we are seeing the highest of quality ! October and November rains were heavy and right at the time of flowering for the earlier ripening varieties, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Along with tiny and light bunches, the resultant crop was 50% and 30% down respectively. The wines do have wonderful flavours, are powerful and balanced and will be ones to buy up on. All other varieties had strong yields and equally impressive quality. A stunning year for Cabernet Sauvignon with a long ‘Indian Summer’ allowing for picking to take place with fine soft ripe tannins and low alcohols.

  • Winemaking

Our Reserve Pinot Noir was picked on the 9th April and the fruit was kept in the cool room overnight. De-stemming into vats (90% whole berry) with 10% whole bunch the following morning the fruit purity of utmost importance with daily gentle wetting of the cap and CO2 for protection. Indigenous fermentation commenced after the fourth day, the cap was pumped over very gently twice per day, in combination with pigeage towards the end of ferment to extract colour and silky tannin and the wine remained on skins for 15 days. At the completion of fer-mentation, the wine was pressed to tank and then racked to French oak barrels (50% new) for malolactic fermentation. It spent 15 months in oak, before being bottled May 10th, 2023, 49 dozen produced.

  • Tasting Notes

Vibrant and deep garnet with purple hues, the aromatics are all red fruits, toasty spice and autumnal tones. Weighty and deep on the palate this is a Pinot of great complexity with layers of sweet red fruits, bramble, earth and baking spices. A structural and balanced wine with great power and intensity and long finish, this wine will reward careful cellaring.
